Dr. Ihsan Azzam
Dr. Ihsan Azzam, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., Medical Consultant
Dr. Azzam is the Nevada State Medical Epidemiologist and provides ongoing consultations on health promotion and community development to the Nevada Health Department Administrator. His expertise is in public health and healthcare surveillance, epidemiology, early event detection, disease control and prevention, health promotion and community development. He is currently a Professor of Epidemiology at the University Of Nevada School Of Medicine Graduate School.
Medical training:
- Received medical degree and completed OB/GYN residency in Romania in 1986
- Oncology training complated at MD-Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in 1995
- CDC Graduate Certification in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Washington, Seattle School of Public Health and Community Medicine in 1997
- CDC Fellowship in Chronic Disease Epidemiology at Penn State College of Medicine in 2001
- Masters in Public Health (MPH) in 2002, as well as his Ph.D. in Toxicology in 2010, at the University of Nevada, Reno

- Scholar of the University of Nevada and Utah Great Basin Public Health Leadership Institute since 2012
- Member of the National Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists since 1993
- Recipient of several national awards including the prestigious 2011 National Sheppard Award for Excellence in Epidemiology from the US Department of Health and Human Services
